Learning Resources & Support

Our Learning Resources and Supports team is full of dedicated teachers and education assistants ready to support any of our students during their time at SJB.

For students with Individualized Learning Plans, we work with the parents and the students on creating an individualized program to help them succeed. We also liaise with the teachers on behalf of the students and support the teachers with universal and essential supports for students with diverse needs and abilities to meet their academic goals.

We have EAs available with strengths to match the needs of diverse learners in the classroom.

Bear Den

The Bear Den is an alternative learning space for students with a variety of learning needs or for those who are looking for additional support with a particular class. Designed to support student learning, the Bear Den is a multi-grade room where students can receive coursework assistance and is a safe space for those with differing abilities to get additional resources and the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual support needed to learn.

Evergreen Certificate Program

For our diverse learners who are on a replacement program towards an Evergreen Completion Certificate, we offer a person-centre planning approach called PATH for a successful future after secondary school.

PATH  is a creative planning tool that utilizes graphic facilitation and communication that provides a visual map and develops positive steps to future goals. With the support of family, friends, school staff and a facilitator, a marginalized student can express their hopes and dreams for their lives after secondary school and those in attendance can create a short term and long term plan to support the student on their path.

Grade 13 or Transition Year

The Learning Resource Centre also provides a transition year for students on an Evergreen Completion Program. This is also referred to as Grade 13. During this year, the student will attend some classes during the day or on certain days and the rest of the time they will be building upon their life skills as well as being involved in volunteer work within the school and the community.

Peer Tutoring

At SJB, we have Peer Tutors available for a variety of subjects.  If you’re looking for a Peer Tutor, contact Mr. Fraser to be connected with one.
